So here is a little bit about me, Ewen, one of the main authors for Outdoor VM. I originally come from England…the outdoor capital of the world! What you don’t agree? But we have mountains that tower over 1000m above sea-level! And huge tracts of untamed wilderness. Filled with sheep and farmers. OK, enough sarcasm. I now live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada because I love cold, snow and sunshine and Edmonton has lots of those.

I am most often found in the Rocky Mountains where I like to hike, camp, mountain bike, ski (downhill and cross-country) and eventually climb. I also like to do all of these with a big heavy backpack that everyone laughs at me for. But I take my camera stuff everywhere and take enough food to power a small army, so that’s my excuse. I also like sneaking up on small (or sometimes not so small) furry animals to take their pictures. I have been known to kayak too. I am sometimes known to dress funny when I hike (see below), but I promise I was not actually around in the 70’s!

I have travelled to a fair few countries, all of which I did some outdoor activity in and will eventually be writing about. I have been to most of Europe, a small part of Russia, the US, Mexico, Canada (obviously), Peru, Bolivia and New Zealand. Peru and New Zealand were my favourite.

My goals for the outdoors are to run the Canadian Death Race in a team next year, and then solo the year after. I also want to get good at climbing, which I started in Jan 2007. Oh and I want to learn how to backcountry ski too, because I’ve only been downhill skiing 5 times so I have a lot to learn. I also want to be able to go cross-country skiing without breaking my boots so often (maybe I should try falling over less?). Oh and I would like to get a good photo of a bear and a cougar. Without being eaten.
